Paying Tribute to our Veterans
Paying Tribute to our Veterans in Collaboration with the Campaign for Disability
Employment (CDE)
Each November, our nation pays tribute to our veterans. USBLN® corporate
members and BLN affiliates focus on employing, marketing, and supplier diversity
strategies for veterans with disabilities. In recognition that misconceptions
remain the greatest barrier to fully including our wounded warriors in diversity
outreach programs, the USBLN® values its role as a collaborative partner
in the Campaign for Disability Employment (CDE). USBLN® corporate members
and BLN affiliates have embraced CDEs What can YOU do?
outreach initiative in many diverse ways.
For example, AMC theaters, the lead company for the Greater Kansas City BLN,
showed the I Can public service announcement (PSA) during the
month of October on over 4,700 movie screens across the country. National
member companies such as CSC, Starbucks and WellPoint have used the materials
for internal staff training. CSC has posted the videos to their Global Diversity
website. Starbucks and WellPoint have used the materials with their Employee
Resource Groups, and Starbucks also used the materials for presentations
with their Recruiting Directors and Talent Acquisition team. The CDEs
English video, radio and print PSA campaign has resulted in nearly $9 million
in national earned media time. The Spanish version of the video PSA, Yo
Puedo, was launched at the USBLN® 2010 Annual Conference in September
and has already accumulated nearly $700,000 in earned media time.
The CDEs print PSAs are also very popular. One print PSA was published
in the October issue of Harpers Bazaar and another in the November
1, 2010 Time. The print PSA published with this USBLN® article features,
Meg Krause, an Army Veteran who has post-traumatic stress disorder and who
is a proud participant in the CDEs What can YOU do? initiative.
