The NGLCC Road Show! LGBT/Disability Supplier Diversity Event in Partnership with the USBLN®
May 2, 2012 will mark a first time ever of the NGLCC and the USBLN® co-participating in a public event promoting both LGBT and Disability Business Certification! This is a cutting edge event bringing together two diverse communities with barriers, both trying to achieve the same supplier diversity access and success. Via regional collaborative think tank partnership between the GBBC, TD Bank and WWL, the NGLCC and the USBLN® were brought into the conversation, resulting in the creation of this May 2nd event. The main purpose of the event will be to congregate small business owners who may identify as LGBT, or as having a disability, or BOTH, to increase awareness of these certifications AND provide information and knowledge on how interested businesses can approach and obtain certification.
Corporate Supply Chain professionals (committed to supplier diversity strategies at companies) are also being invited. The May 2nd event will include networking portions to foster connections and interaction between corporate purchasers and LGBT/Disability Owned small business suppliers.
When: Wednesday, May 2, 2012 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT
Where: TD Garden, 100 Legends Way, Boston, MA

USBLN® Response to Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Regarding the 503 Regulation
WASHINGTON, DC (February 6, 2012) - On December 9, 2011, the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to strengthen the current affirmative action employment requirements for people with disabilities. The USBLN® supports the U.S. Department of Labor's intent to improve the utilization of people with disabilities in the workforce, and recognizes that the current Section 503 affirmative action regulatory framework needs to be modernized, strengthened, and clarified.
In response to the NPRM, the US Business Leadership Network® (USBLN®) convened a committee comprised of Board and Corporate Advisory Board member companies to collectively develop comments inclusive of the strong expertise, experience and ideas of their stakeholders. The USBLN® member companies are committed to including disability in all their diversity efforts and each one has developed successful employment policies and practices. It is critical to the USBLN® members' continued success that the final regulations advance recruitment, hiring, retention and advancement efforts.
The USBLN® has submitted their response to the OFCCP with comments now available below, on their website and social media networks. (DOC | PDF)

Veterans Service Project a Huge Success at the USBLN® Annual Conference
As we celebrate our military veterans on Friday, November 11, 2011, and bow our heads at the 11th hour, let us think about the returning veterans with apparent and non-apparent disabilities for whom adjustment to civilian life is over-whelming. Far too many of our heroes are experiencing homelessness and are living on the streets or are couch-surfing.
On October 17, 2011, following the first day of the USBLN®'s 2011 Annual Conference, conference attendees and speakers and USBLN® members and staff joined members of the Kentucky AmeriCorps and the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service on the "assembly line." We were there to fill 30 boxes with basic kitchen supplies that included dishes, flatware, pots and pans and cooking utensils. (Read the full article & view photos)
